It’s been a lot of fun establishing Surf Simply as a leading surf coaching center. We’ve found that because of the analytical and structured approach we take to surf coaching, we tend to attract people who are serious about wanting to make surfing a part of their lives. Most of our guests want to make surfing the primary focus of their trip and learn about every aspect of the sport: from riding waves to lifeguarding and surf coach training; meteorology to judging; board design to surf history and cinematography. We simply couldn’t fit this all into regular style surf lesson at the beach so in 2009 we built an all inclusive surf coaching resort and the concept of a center of excellence based in Costa Rica became a reality. From the word go, we wanted to create the ultimate all inclusive surf coaching package, a long way removed from the laid back instructors and creaky floorboards of a conventional surf camp. Here’s what your stay at Surf Simply will include.
We are committed to providing the best value and quality surf coaching package available world wide. So we’ve cut out all the middle men and train everyone in house, this means we can keep the price low and the standards high. Meals, transfers, massages and boards are all included so you can just surf and relax. We offer a choice of accommodation options as we wanted to make technical surf coaching accessible to a variety of budgets. You can share a room, share a chalet or stay in private luxury. A week at the resort runs from Saturday to Saturday. You’ll combine to 90 minute in water coaching sessions each day with video feedback and theory lessons and a whole lot of other stuff to make your trip perfect…
Fun, Analytical Surf Lessons
You’ll have two 90 minute surf lessons each day with one of the Surfing GB, ISA, RLSS and ILS certified surf simply coaches. The unique methodology at Surf Simply takes all the mystical voodoo out of surfing. Instead we clearly communicate the concepts and body movements which make surfing fun and accessible to everyone. Beginners will enjoy our confidence building lessons while more experienced surfers will love our video coaching and skill specific drills.
We’ve taken a cue from ski resorts here and offer beautiful surf chalets. Each chalet has two bedrooms, one bathroom and a kitchen. The three chalets are all brand new with thought and care given to the interior design. They also all have AirCon, WiFi and blissful silence – all you will hear as you sit on your chalet’s private terrace is the sounds of birds and monkeys in the trees. You can choose to have a private or shared chalet, or a shared room depending on your budget.
The Surf Resort Facilities
A few steps from your front door you will find the deep, secluded swimming pool and pool side lounge with WiFi. This is where we will gather for your post surf video analysis whilst enjoying a post surf brunch, your contest judging lessons, demonstrative analysis and oceanography sessions on the HD widescreen TV. We’ll make sure all of this is done whilst sipping cool fruit smoothies on the large, comfortable pool-side sofas.
We provide a light early breakfast, a huge late brunch, afternoon tea and a delicious evening meal every night. Breakfast, brunch and tea we have at the resort then we’ll do something different but equally special every night. Some nights we will visit local restaurants with stunning views over the jungle and coast line or eat by a roaring on the beach fire a few feet from the surf. Each villa also has its own kitchen giving you the freedom to do your own thing if the mood takes you.
Your Own Surf Movies
Over the course of your week with us we’ll being using video feedback to help you with your surfing. It’s a great tool as things rarely feel the same as they look. We then use the footage to make you your own surf movie as a memento of your trip. It’s also great to look back in years to come when you see how much you’ve improved.
The Money Shot
All of us, young or old, even the most humble among us, would love to have a great photo of ourselves surfing. So we make sure we head down one morning, when the light is good and the waves are glassy, with the biggest zoom lens we can lay our hands on and snap away. Contest surfers often refer to professional ‘free surfers’ as ‘photo sluts’ because they make their living out of getting their picture in surf mags. We can’t promise to get you to that level but we’ll certainly have a lot of fun trying.
Yoga or Massage
We have included a choice of either 5 yoga classes or a well earned, full body massage. Francela, our in-house yoga guru, trained as a yoga instructor at the Omega center in New York. She now teaches multi disciplinary yoga teacher training courses at the Nosara Yoga Institute and although she wouldn’t tell you herself, she is one of the best female surfers in Costa Rica. Crystal is a qualified massage therapist and is used to working out the tired muscles which can go hand in hand with surfing.
It’s usually on day four of a surf trip that you wake up in the morning feeling a little …creaky. You can minimize this by training for surfing but you still need, and deserve a day of rest. So on Wednesday we have a day off from surfing and you can have a well-earned lie in. Wednesday is the only day where you will need to arrange your own meals. You can visit the local store and rustle something up in the kitchen in your chalet or visit one of the cafes or restaurants nestling in the jungle a short walk from your door.
Other Fun Stuff
Your mid week day off from surfing also means you can take advantage one of the tours included in your package. At no extra cost you can take a zip line jungle canopy tour, go horse riding, take a boat tour up the river, a stand up paddle tour of the coast, train with a former world women’s boxing champ or just lounge around in the pool. You can also go sport fishing, which is awesome but does cost a little extra depending on how many people are in your group.
Transfers & Transport
Our chauffeur will meet you off the plane in an Air Conditioned SUV and bring you the 2.5 hours from Liberia (or 5.5 hours from San Jose) through the jungle to Nosara. Once you’re here the resort golf buggy will take you the 800 yards through the nature reserve to the beach, twice a day, for your surfs. If you decide to do a little exploring as well, or visit the beach for some solitude, a stroll or just to sunbathe, the resort’s beach cruisers (bicycles) are available to you all day too.
Equipment & Goodies
We have over 50 new surfboards this season and we’ll provide you with the perfect board to make great progress on. We use NSPs, SurfTechs and Al Merricks (if it’s good enough for Kelly Slater it’s good enough for us). We’ll also provide you with high factor water proof sunblock (which is annoying to have to travel with) so you can stay young and beautiful even after hours in the surf.
