It was a wonderful Christmas this year for Innocent Surf School. First, we had all of our family come over from the UK & US to all be in Nosara together for the first time. When Gem and I got married last Feb it was too difficult for our families to get here and it was just the two of us. So, never being bound by convention, we waited 6 months before we had the wedding reception (photo above). There were a few tears, a few drinks and eventually some ridiculous dancing.
We (Gem and I) decided that one of the important things about weddings is that all the various family member have the chance to get to know each other. Rather than one afternoon of blurry, boozy conversation, we thought it would be fun to have everyone to stay for a couple of weeks. And it was awesome.
Gonca, a good friend of Innocent Surf School (and an amazing International designer) made Gem, and all the other girls: mums, sisters, neices, grans and friends, look amazing for the big day. (Thanks Gonca). She has a cool little store at the Harmony Hotel here in Nosara.
My four year old niece got so excited watching the Pipe Masters with me online (congrats Taj) that she immediately demanded we go down to the ocean and she stood up on a surfboard for the first time (while holding a big clump of uncle Ru’s hair in her hand just for extra stability!)
We all went sport fishing too with Agua Azul Charters in Garza, which is few minutes up the road (Agua Azul on Facebook). I loved it. We were sitting on the boat eating fresh sushi at ten in the morning. Amazing. Pulling in this Dorado is physically about the hardest thing I’ve ever done and we’re still eating fish pie two weeks later!
